DESCRIPTION
Josta- this is a highly valued standard variety, which is a cross between a black currant and a gooseberry. In this way the advantages of both species are combined: a sharp refreshing gooseberry and blueberry flavour. Josta grows vigorously and its shoots are long, and thornless. The fruits are two to three times larger than other currant varieties. The flesh is pale green, sweet and sour. Ideal for direct consumption or for preserves. The fruits of this hybrid contain vitamin C, provitamin A, sugars, organic acids, minerals, anthocyanins, and pectin.ADVICES
The plant is best planted in a sunny or semi-shaded position. The ideal soil should be fertile, and lightly moist. Optimum pH - from alkaline to slightly acidic. Please note that each seedling requires additional support. The support should reach above the crown of the plant. The support stakes should be placed in the soil before planting the seedling, to ensure the root stock will not be damaged, which could occur if done in the reverse order. This hybrid requires proper pruning. In the first year the shoots should be shortened by about one third of the length to promote density within the crown, and restrict the size of the crown. Later, cut out the old and diseased shoots, and any shoots that are growing in the wrong direction. This small tree form should be pruned to an almost spherical shape. Also, you should remove any root suckers and shoots growing from the trunk.
