DESCRIPTION
Cunningham's White is a very old and decorative variety of large-flowered rhododendron. The bush is dense and has a wide and rounded shape. May reach 1,5 m in diameter. Oval, dark green, shiny leaves with distinct central vein. Blooms profusely in the first weeks of May and often again, at the end of August, providing plenty of conical flowers with the diameter of 3,5 to 5 cm, gathered in loose, round blossoms. Flower buds are bright pink. Once developed, flowers become white with a distinct yellow-green spot on upper petals. Evergreen plant.ADVICES
Rhododendrons prefer partly shaded and calm locations. Humus soil with acidic pH of 4 to 4.5 is perfect.
The bush should be planted in spring (from mid-March until mid-June) or in autumn (from mid-September until the end of October). The location should provide enough space to grow. The soil around the plant should be covered with a few centimetre thick layer of bark. Use organic or rhododendron dedicated fertilisers. Watering is necessary in dry periods (more than 2 weeks without rain). Withered flowers must be removed. In winter, the plant should be covered with frost cloth or spruce twigs. Rhododendrons do not require pruning - it is enough to remove broken branches or shoots damaged by frost.
